BOWENWORK
Bowenwork offers a non-invasive, holistic approach to pain relief and healing. Bowenwork uses gentle soft-tissue or fascial-release technique on specific spots on the body. It involves a light cross-fiber move of muscle, fascia, nerve or tendon. This works to stimulate the body's energy and activate its healing capacity. This gives the brain the message to heal a particular area and achieve balance and lasting results. Bowen works to help the underlying cause rather than the symptoms. The side effects often include pain relief, improved physical and mental well-being, increased energy, improved circulation, lymphatic drainage, detoxification and stress relief.
Bowenwork is a truly unique therapy that helps anything from traumatic injury, chronic illnesses, developmental delay and everyday stress. Bowenwork resets the nervous system, activates the immune system and stimulates the body's innate healing ability.
Since Bowenwork is a whole body therapy, it has the potential to help any condition. It affects internal organ systems, the musculoskeletal structure and the emotional part of us. Bowenwork takes the body out of stress mode and puts it into relax, rest and repair mode, which is the body’s natural healing state. It helps improve the overall well-being and balance of the body

What is Bowenwork?
Bowenwork is a system of soft tissue therapy that was developed by the late Tom Bowen of Australia. It consists of gentle, precisely applied, rolling movements performed over muscle, fascia (connective tissue), and nerves. These Bowenwork ‘moves’ send sensory information to the brain, resetting tension levels and activating the body’s natural healing response. There are frequent rest periods between sets of ‘moves’, allowing the body time to assimilate and respond to the work. Because it works primarily through the nervous system, healing occurs on many levels, as needed: physical, chemical, mental and emotional.
Bowenwork is based on the principle that the body has an innate blueprint for health and, when in a state of balance, its powerful self-righting and healing mechanisms can be accessed. We are subject to a wide range of physical, mental and emotional stresses throughout our lives. If stress is allowed to accumulate to the point where it overwhelms our coping mechanisms, there can be a breakdown of the system resulting in pain and declining health. By resetting the nervous system, Bowenwork helps to unwind the dysfunctional patterns brought on by prolonged stress, injuries, trauma, illness, surgeries and poor habits. This process brings the body into a greater state of balance, health and wellbeing.
Bowenwork facilitates the body in healing itself, with minimal intervention. Bowenwork is painless, non-invasive, and can provide lasting relief from a wide variety of acute and chronic conditions. It is a safe and effective therapy for people of all ages and at all levels of health, from the newborn to the elderly, the chronically ill to the competitive athlete. It can also be used for stress reduction, general wellness and to enhance athletic performance.
In contrast to other hands-on modalities, where the practitioner imposes correction on the client through manipulation, Bowen Technique facilitates the body in healing itself, with minimal intervention. Because of the subtle nature of Bowen Technique, and the body’s continuing response to it over several days thereafter, other forms of manipulative therapy are discouraged for up to five days after a session.

We also find that the Bowenwork technique is very effective for those needing rehabilitation after an injury. This includes sports injuries, falls, car accidents, emotional shock, etc. In fact, the sooner you receive this therapy after an injury or trauma, the better we are able to stimulate the body’s parasympathetic nervous system to speed up the healing process. We do, however, suggest that you talk with your doctor first if you have any serious health conditions or new injuries.
Most clients report significant change with their presenting problem within 1-8 sessions.
What happens in a Bowenwork Session
Each Bowenwork session is personalized to focus on the specific symptoms a client is experiencing. The work is usually done over lightweight loose clothing (shorts and a tank top or t-shirt are ideal).
The session will last anywhere from 30-60 minutes. The length depends on what we are addressing and how the client is responding to the Bowenwork. Less is more when it comes to Bowenwork.
It is best to schedule 2 appointments a week apart to set the foundation of the work. After that, we will re-evaluate your needs.
During the session a client will lie on a Bowenwork table or, if need be, seated on a chair. The practitioner will gently place his or her hands on specific body and muscle sites. The “moves” are gentle and precise. The Bowen moves initiate a rapid self-healing process via the nervous system.
Typically during a Bowenwork session there are a number of pauses where the practitioner will leave the room. These pauses are an essential part of Bowenwork. This is when the body and brain are communicating. These pauses allow the body time to respond to the stimulation that has just been initiated and integrate the signals to the healing process.
During your session you may notice some subtle changes in your body. Some Bowenwork clients describe painless tingling or pulsating sensations. Others don’t notice anything out of the ordinary. After your session over the next several days you may experience an increased range of motion, a reduction of pain, lessening of muscular tension and a greater sense of relaxation and well-being.
Everybody responds differently to Bowenwork. They respond in their own time and according to their own body’s ability to heal.
