Mary Purdy has been a RN since 1999. Prior to that she spent several years as a Lactation and Nutrition counselor at Salud Medical Center WIC program. She worked as a triage nurse for Salud and then later at Silverton Hospital as a Lactation Consultant, Labor and Delivery and Postpartum Nurse. After 18 years there she left to start her own holistic bodywork practice.
Over her 20+ years working in the medical field it became evident to her that there was so much more to healing and something was missing. After becoming a patient herself, it became evident that the mind, body and spirit of the individual were not being addressed. There are so many holistic approaches available but not being utilized by western medicine in standard hospital care.
She observed that as a sedentary culture, this was changing the shape of our bodies, creating tension and pain patterns and early aging. It is also affecting how we birth and feed our babies. In 2013, she began to train in Craniosacral Therapy with Carol Gray, Upledger and Allison Hazelbaker. Soon after she was given a brochure about Bowenwork from her child's teacher and after receiving 2 Bowenwork sessions she was stunned by the elimination of her own shoulder pain and profound sense of well-being. She was hooked and now is a Professional Bowenwork Practitioner.
To further support her clients Mary began in 2015 training with Katy Bowman as a Restorative Exercise Specialist and Healthy Foot Practitioner at the Nutritious Movement Center. This training has had a profound impact on her, her family and the way they move and live. It is not just an exercise class it is a way to live and move better.
